It’s a lot of things… a good place to start is with our mark. It says a lot about who, and how, we are.
You can see a lot of things in that mark, if you look closely… it’s pretty obviously a “Q” and an “F.” So, there’s our name. We chose that name because fitness, both the work of training and the choices one makes in programming, nutrition, supplementation, and other lifestyle choices should be grounded in science. And I mean science as a verb, as it was meant to be; actively applying the scientific method, to the degree practical in everyday life, to your health and fitness. That means having goals and results which are meaningfully measurable (hence, “quantum”), so you can effectively test, adapt, adopt, and discard that which doesn’t work.
I strongly advocate people taking much of that knowing in hand themselves, but fear not; if you want to just show up and do all the things and follow the advice and not worry about the “why” of what makes our program work, you can do that too… you’ll still get stronger and faster and more flexible and healthier and very probably start doing many things you never thought would ever be able to do.
You may also notice that it looks a lot like a symbol for an element on the periodic table, at least in the layout, with super- and sub-script elements. that’s because we’re grounded in fundamentals; natural, biomechanically sound movements, compound full-body things like squats and deadlifts, power development from the hip, training which works to mimic the kind of movements the body is engineered to perform. These are the tools which are used to build the very best fitness for taking on not only every day life, but a broad range of demanding, even competitive, athletic endeavors.
You might next see the barbell in there, hiding in the negative space that also makes up the “Q.” Again, we go for fundamentals, proven training tools; you’ll not find step aerobics happening in our gym. Nor will you find endless banks of weight machines set up for isolation movements. You’ll find barbells, bumper plates (so you are free to drop the bar when needed as you learn lifts, which is orders of magnitude safer than trying to hang onto a bar you’re not fully in control of and getting injured), jump ropes, kettlebells, tractor tires, sandbags, and big cage full of pull-up bars and gymnastic rings. Yeah, it’s hard work we do, but it’s highly effective, and everything can be scaled… wherever you’re starting in your fitness development, we can accommodate you.
Finally, you might see a molecule; dihydrogen oxide, plain old water… arguably the fundamental medium of life. In more macroscopic terms, proper hydration is vital for health and fitness. That image could also be taken for the nitrogen atom and two hydrogen atoms which form an amine, the “start” of every amino acid, which forms proteins, which are literally the building blocks of our bodies, the engines which drive us, the medium in which all the information out of which we develop is encoded.
At QuantumFit, we believe all people are born to be fit, healthy, and effective in the world. We all have a right to long, strong, healthy lives… lives which contribute to our happiness, take full advantage of our gifts, celebrate the freedom of our minds and bodies, and empower us to do our good in the world. Keeping a fit and healthy life takes work, it’s true, but it’s good work worth doing and if you do it right, it’s as much play as work (which makes it pretty fun).
